Grief is most certainly not easy to come to terms with and personally, I like poets that really get emotions across in their writing. A very short and easy to read collection on KU. The writing was missing a little something for me. Then again, I have read other poems based on grief recently...

2 stars!

I wanted to start this review off by saying why I choose to read this book!
Reason number 1 was the title reminded me of the story that I am working on and made me initial pick this book up. The gorgeous cover caught my eye as well!
Reason number two was that the book was self-published and I wanted to read more books that were self-published by people.
Reason number 3: I wanted to read more poetry of different kinds.

Kamala, I believe that what you have here is coming from a place of immense grief and strength. I appreciate you putting your emotions into words and publishing them. That must take a lot to do that and I admire you.

But this book was not my cup of tea and I should've known it. I am not a fan of short poetry and this book consisted of only short poetry that was really simple. I felt that some of the poems were a good start or could have been expanded to be longer and said more about the situation. It felt easy to write, easy to relate to. I could have sat down and came up with similar poems in minutes. I didn't hate this book. I didn't like it. I just had a mixed opinion about it.

I couldn't really relate to many of these poems, because most of them were about a loss of a relationship and I have never been in a relationship before. I cringed at times and laughed a bit.

Some of these things I have heard before and they didn't seem new to me, seemed like repeats of various poems that I read before or various other things. I got to say that I think I enjoyed Rupi Kaur's books more than this book. I felt mixed about Rupi's poems as well.

Chapter two was on there twice. Sometimes she would use a word like can't and other times, she didn't include the apostrophe, which made it not as consistent. I do understand if she made mistakes, since this was self-published and it's easy to overlook things. I recommend if a new edition comes out or she wants to publish it to look over the mistakes again.

The thing I liked about this book is that I could read it fast and get through it faster. I think that this book would be better suited for someone that is new to poetry and is intimidated by the classic poetry that they read in an English class. It is very easy to get into and relate to. I was not the person for this book, but you might be. If you are a fan of short poetry or are looking to get into poetry, you might enjoy this more than I did.

I do recommend Rupi Kaur's poetry if you enjoyed this book. She touches on similar themes, but is more varied in what she writes about. Her writing is short, but relatable like this book.

the poems weren't bad, but they're definitely not original. some sounded REALLY familiar (like, i'm almost certain they were plagiarised or that she just wrote down some quotes she heard once). i agree with the poems, i like the feminism in it, it just wasn't anything unique or special. it was okay, but i wouldn't really recommend it. don't get me wrong, there were A FEW original poems that i really really liked, hence the 3 stars. but like, 5/5 stars for the cover though. Most of the poems talk about losing someone - the pain and the longing that comes with it. The words are - for the lack of a better term - quite basic. That's not a bad thing, in my opinion. This is a quick read and the words hit my heart enough for me to feel something. It's not too bad, but it's not too great either, hence the three stars. This surprised me

I was not expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed and related to a lot of the poems. Although there were some things I couldn't agree with but to each their own.
